StoryKeepers in our Schools

engaging a student's interest in history by discovering their own family's story.

Overview:

Storykeepers teaches students how to do historical research based on their family stories. Units include genealogy and family trees; photography (where students do detective work by looking at fashion, hairstyles, etc.); primary/secondary sources; records at the Town Clerk's; artifacts; census records; and other online research such as findagrave, Chronicling America (newspaper archives), vermontcivilwar.org, and ancestryclassroom.

Students choose an ancestor to research, using at least three tools of research, and create a culminating activity, i.e. poster, multimedia presentation, scrapbook, etc.
